We’ve done it again! The GRESB Real Estate Assessment – the industry benchmark for environmental and social impact – is out, and we have been given their top rating of 5 Stars. This is the highest GRESB Rating and a recognition for being an industry leader.

We proudly participate in the annual GRESB benchmarking process, providing comparable and reliable data on the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) performance of our investments.  GRESB was launched in 2009 by a group of large pension funds who wanted to have access to comparable and reliable data on the ESG performance of their real assets, and monitor the sector’s progress towards global sustainability goals. The survey is the largest of its kind, now covering over 100,000 assets for 1,005 firms in 64 countries.

The 2019 results assessment recognises our sustainability and social impact achievements, and helps drive decision-making that leads to a more sustainable real asset industry.

This year we achieved an 87/100 score, improving on last year’s result and achieving the maximum of 5 Green Stars.  This is especially impressive given our modest size relative to our comparable peer group, which includes firms like Aviva, Canary Wharf, Threadneedle, Legal & General, and Hermes among other luminaries.

Sander Paul van Tongeren, Co-Founder and Managing Director at GRESB remarked: “The firm aim for best practice in sustainability and take a highly principled approach to all aspects of property ownership. You are the leaders of this movement and it’s your commitment to ESG integration and reporting that is paving the way for a more sustainable real asset industry.

We strive always to do better and so the assessment helps us to understand areas where we can improve.  The impact of sustainable investment goes further than numbers and percentages of course, and we are continuously discovering how best to improve the lives of those within our community, both socially and environmentally, and whether it is those who occupy our buildings, invest in them, or share in their surroundings.

Sustainability for us is not only an environmental imperative but one that helps bridge gaps and improves people’s lives on a day-to-day basis.  We are always pleased when these efforts get recognised.
